Logging into WordPress may seem like a simple task for those already initiated, but for those unfamiliar with a CMS (Content Management System) such as WordPress, a common question we hear is “How do I log in?”. Here is eGravity’s foolproof guide to logging into your WordPress website.
Step 1
Locate the address bar of your browser, and type /wp-login.php immediately after the base URL (usually the homepage) of your website.
The /wp-login.php should follow immediately after your domain’s extension (.co.uk and .com are common extensions).
If any text is already present in the address bar immediately after your domain’s extension (/index.php or /index.html would be common cases) then delete this first.
When you have something which looks like www.yourwebsite.co.uk/wp-login.php in your browser’s address bar, hit enter.
If you’ve done this correctly you should be greated by the WordPress login page!
Step 2
Enter your WordPress username or the email address you used to create your WordPress account in the first, uppermost field.
Step 3
Enter your password in the second field provided. WordPress passwords are case sensitive, so be sure to check that caps lock is not enabled on your keyboard if your password contains all lower-case letters.
Step 4
Once you’ve entered your username and password, click the Log In button.
Dashboard
Once you’ve completed the above steps successfully, you will be greeted by your website’s WordPress dashboard. From here you will be able to control or edit many aspects of your WordPress website.
